Kwara University Teaching Hospital issues ultimatum over unclaimed bodies
The management of the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH), Ilorin, has announced plans to conduct a mass burial of unclaimed bodies due to the morgue reaching full capacity.
In a statement issued over the weekend by the hospital’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Yakub Kamaldeen Aliagan, KWASUTH gave a two-week ultimatum for families to claim the bodies of their deceased relatives. Failure to do so will result in the hospital proceeding with mass burial to address the overcrowding.
“The management of Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH) wishes to inform the general public that its mortuary is filled beyond capacity due to unclaimed bodies,” the statement read.
The hospital urged relatives of the deceased to collect the bodies of their loved ones promptly to avoid mass burial.
This development is believed to stem from the lack of available space for storing deceased individuals, prompting the hospital to take decisive action to decongest the facility.
The management emphasized that it has made efforts to contact the families of the deceased, encouraging them to act within the stipulated timeframe.
