Kwara Shortlists 1,800 Applicants for Teaching Appointments

The Kwara State Teaching Service Commission has shortlisted 1,800 candidates for teaching positions across secondary schools in the state, following a rigorous selection process.
This was announced in a statement issued by the Commission’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sam Onile, in Ilorin.
According to the statement, the shortlisted applicants were selected after a comprehensive screening exercise that included computer-based tests and interviews conducted over a three-month period.
Of the 1,800 successful candidates, 790 (44%) were selected to teach STEM subjects, 581 for core subjects, 370 for specialised subjects, and 59 for technical subjects. The teachers will be deployed to senior secondary schools across the 16 local government areas of the state, based on the Commission’s needs assessment.
Onile urged all applicants who participated in the interview phase to check their application status on the Commission’s portal. He added that all shortlisted candidates are required to undergo a mandatory drug test to confirm their suitability to work with children.
The drug test, to be conducted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), will be coordinated by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Drug Abuse Prevention and Control, Hon. Mukail Aileru. Testing is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, April 9, and conclude on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
The schedule for the drug tests is as follows:
-
Wednesday, April 9: Baruten, Edu, Kaiama, Patigi
-
Thursday, April 10: Ekiti, Ifelodun, Irepodun, Isin
-
Friday, April 11: Offa, Oke Ero, Oyun, Moro
-
Saturday, April 12: Asa, Ilorin East, Ilorin South, Ilorin West
Onile noted that the NDLEA will submit the drug test results directly to the Commission to prevent any tampering.
In addition, successful candidates will be required to sign a six-year bond, agreeing not to request transfers—part of the state government’s strategy to address the shortage of teachers in rural areas.
During the documentation process, shortlisted applicants must present:
-
A valid medical certificate from any state government hospital
-
Original credentials along with photocopies for record-keeping
-
A handwritten letter accepting the job offer
Further details regarding terms and conditions of employment will be communicated during documentation.
