The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, has shed light on the brutal murder of AbdulRazaq Ajani, a retired federal controller of works and chairman of the Infrastructure Development Committee of Ibolo Peoples Parley (IPP). The incident, which occurred on Friday, has sent shockwaves through the community.

Ajani, a native of Ikotun in Oyun Local Government Area, was killed at his residence in the Awolowo area of Tanke, Ilorin, shortly after returning from Offa with his wife and children, where they had celebrated the New Year.

CCTV footage revealed that four young men, aged between 18 and 22, gained access to the house as Ajani drove in. Following a brief conversation with the deceased, the assailants brutally attacked him with what appeared to be axes, leaving him fatally injured.

Speaking on the incident, Commissioner Olaiya stated that preliminary investigations strongly suggest a cult-related motive. “The wife recounted that her husband had a conversation with the four individuals before instructing her and the children to go inside. Shortly after, the suspects carried out the attack,” he said.

While withholding specific details to protect the integrity of the investigation, Olaiya emphasized the police’s commitment to solving the case. “The nature of their conversation is highly suggestive of a cult-related killing. We are treating this case as one involving visiting cultists. Rest assured, we will uncover the truth and bring the perpetrators to justice,” he assured.

The Ibolo Peoples Parley (IPP), through its General Secretary, Chief Rauf Balogun (SAN), expressed deep shock over the tragic event. In a statement, the IPP called on security agencies to expedite their efforts in resolving the case and ensuring the culprits are brought to book.

“We passionately appeal to the relevant security agencies to unravel the mystery surrounding this heinous crime and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Balogun stated.

The investigation is ongoing, with the police vowing to leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice for the slain community leader.
