2027 Elections: Sule Lamido rejects El-Rufai’s invitation to SDP

Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has rejected an invitation from ex-Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa on Sunday, Lamido described the invitation as an insult, emphasizing that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) played a crucial role in shaping El-Rufai’s political career.

Although El-Rufai did not specifically mention Lamido, he had earlier called on key opposition figures—including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola—to join the SDP as a potential platform for the 2027 elections.

Lamido’s rejection underscores ongoing political realignments and tensions as Nigeria moves closer to the next election cycle.
