Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has approved the allocation of ₦20 billion in the state’s supplementary budget to further upgrade school infrastructure across the state.

The new funding is part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to modernize public schools, a project that began in 2020 following the restoration of the state’s partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

In a statement released in Ilorin, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, confirmed the governor’s directive, noting that preparations are already underway.

“His Excellency has instructed that we dedicate another ₦20 billion to school infrastructural upgrades. The process has already begun — designs are being prepared, and implementation will commence once the supplementary budget is approved,” the statement read.

Governor AbdulRazaq emphasized that this is a continuation, not a new initiative, highlighting the administration’s track record since taking office.

“Between 2019 and now, we have rehabilitated over 1,254 classrooms, in addition to several other targeted interventions,” he said. “This new allocation is another major step in scaling up what we’ve been doing.”

He added that his administration remains the only one in recent state history to have successfully implemented SUBEB-UBEC school intervention projects dating as far back as 2014.

The latest round of upgrades will also include the installation of laboratory and sanitation facilities, with schools across various parts of the state set to benefit.

“Despite the progress made, we recognize that significant gaps still exist in our school infrastructure,” AbdulRazaq noted. “That’s why this additional investment is critical — to close those gaps and ensure better learning environments for our students.”
