Farmers Celebrate as Senator Mustapha Launches Subsidized Tractorisation Programme in Kwara Central
Farmers across Kwara Central were in high spirits on Saturday as Senator Saliu Mustapha officially launched a subsidized tractorisation programme designed to boost mechanized farming and enhance agricultural productivity in the region.
The initiative, part of the senator’s broader rural development and food security agenda, offers farmers access to tractors and other mechanized farming equipment at significantly reduced rates.
As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture Production Services and Rural Development, Senator Mustapha distributed tractors across the four local government areas of Kwara Central, building on a recent distribution of tractors to farmer groups and cooperative societies across the state.
According to his media aide, Nasif Sholagberu, the programme, tagged Turaki Sagbedoba, aims to empower smallholder farmers and strengthen food production in rural communities.
“This distribution is a reflection of the senator’s commitment to leveraging his legislative influence to deliver agricultural benefits directly to his constituents,” Sholagberu said.
He also noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agriculture Development Programme, further reinforcing national efforts to improve food security.
Since his election, Senator Mustapha, a first-time lawmaker, has quickly emerged as a key advocate for food security and rural development in the Senate. His focus on attracting agriculture-driven interventions to Kwara Central is seen by many as a strategic and timely response to rising food prices and economic challenges.
Stakeholders have lauded the tractorisation programme, noting that it will ease the burden on local farmers and accelerate the adoption of mechanized farming practices in the district.
Since taking office, Mustapha has spearheaded a series of empowerment initiatives, with agriculture remaining a cornerstone of his development strategy—a move analysts describe as both visionary and deeply responsive to the needs of his constituents.
