Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has appointed Professor Folorunsho Salman as the pioneer acting Vice-Chancellor of the newly established Kwara State University of Education (KWSUED).

In July, the National Universities Commission (NUC) approved the conversion of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, into a university. This followed the passage of necessary legislation by the state assembly and the submission of the institution’s academic brief and physical master plan to the NUC.

Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor’s chief press secretary, confirmed the appointment of Professor Medinat Folorunsho Salman on Tuesday. Prior to her appointment, Salman was a senior lecturer in the Department of Science Education and served as the coordinator of the Educational Technology Centre at the University of Ilorin.

Professor Salman, a specialist in mathematics education, earned her Bachelor of Education degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1985. She obtained a master’s degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Ilorin in 1990 and a doctorate in the same field in 1998.

Notably, Salman is the first female professor from the Ilorin Emirate. Her research interests include Mathematics Education, gender issues in mathematics and science education, and innovations in mathematics education in developing countries.
