Ilorin central mosque commends Senator Saliu Mustapha for landmark solar energy project
The Ilorin Emirate Central Jum’mat Mosque Management Committee has expressed deep appreciation to the Senator representing Kwara Central, Senator Saliu Mustapha, for facilitating the installation of a state-of-the-art solar-powered mini-grid system for the mosque and parts of the Emir’s palace.
This multi-million naira intervention, now in its implementation phase, follows a request made during the mosque’s annual Board of Trustees meeting last year. True to his promise, Senator Mustapha has delivered, reinforcing his dedication to preserving the religious and cultural heritage of the Ilorin Emirate.
The new solar infrastructure is expected to significantly reduce the mosque’s energy costs while ensuring 24/7 uninterrupted electricity supply (excluding air conditioning units). For the first time, the mosque will remain fully illuminated day and night, allowing residents, worshippers, and visitors to fully appreciate the grandeur of this historic religious landmark.
This milestone comes on the heels of another transformative gesture — a ₦1 billion pledge from a generous donor for the construction of a 250-bed ultramodern hostel at the University of Ilorin. Both initiatives strongly align with the vision of His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, Emir of Ilorin, for a self-sustaining, modern Central Mosque — one that embodies faith, innovation, and community resilience.
The Central Mosque Management Committee, on behalf of His Royal Highness, extends heartfelt gratitude to Senator Saliu Mustapha and the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for this historic intervention.
These developments mark a new chapter in the legacy of the Ilorin Central Mosque — a legacy that future generations will celebrate as a symbol of unity, foresight, and spiritual strength.
Jazakumullahu Khairan.
