Kwara Government reaffirms commitment to prosecution, defence of court cases

The Kwara State Government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring timely prosecution and defence of court cases involving individuals and entities within the state. This assurance was given by the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Senior Ibrahim Sulyman, who was represented by the Solicitor General, Musa Idris, during the quarterly Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Ministry of Finance conference room in Ilorin.

Sulyman emphasized the dedication of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration to upholding justice through efficient handling of legal matters, stating, “It is the statutory role of the Ministry of Justice to prosecute and defend court cases in order to maintain peaceful coexistence in the state.”

He provided an update on the Ministry’s activities, revealing that from May 2024 to date, the Department of Civil Litigation has handled 54 cases, with 38 still ongoing and 16 cases successfully concluded.

Highlighting further progress, Sulyman shared that the Department of Public Prosecutions has dealt with a total of 319 cases, issuing 262 legal advisories. Additionally, the Department of Legal Drafting has vetted 88 agreements and worked on four laws and bills.

In the area of revenue-related legal matters, the Department of Revenue Services is managing 23 cases, with 12 cases already concluded.

The Attorney General also noted the ministry’s oversight of the Office of Public Defender, which is currently handling 82 cases, 15 of which have been resolved. He further mentioned that the Citizens Mediation Centre is addressing 66 complaints, providing mediation services to promote amicable resolution of disputes.

This briefing underscore the Kwara State Government’s commitment to upholding justice and ensuring efficient legal processes for the benefit of its residents.
