Kwara State invest #14bn in Basic Education through UBEC counterpart funding.

Kwara State Government has released #14 billion as its counterpart fund to UBEC, aimed at boosting the quality of basic education in the state.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State disclosed that the N14 billion UBEC counterpart fund has been fully paid by his government to improve basic education, emphasizing the visible impact of his administration across the state’s 193 wards and 16 local government areas, especially in terms of education.

At the 2024 Press Week Grand Finale of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Governor Abdulrazaq highlighted the substantial progress made across all sectors during his administration’s first five years.

Speaking on behalf of the Governor, Saadu Salahudeen, Special Adviser and Counsellor, highlighted several achievements, including the renovation of over 600 schools, urban renewal initiatives, extensive road construction, payment of N750 million in salary arrears to staff at the State’s three Colleges of Education, and the hiring of new teachers.

According to the governor, another notable accomplishment was the elimination of polio within six months of assuming office, a feat that had far-reaching impacts across the state’s 16 local government areas and 193 political wards.

The governor’s representative assured of continued collaboration with state correspondents to drive growth, pointing out that the administration has created a more journalist-friendly environment, facilitating their work and professional growth since taking the reins.

Earlier, Bola Ojukoju, Commissioner for Communication, requested the media practitioners in the State to always uphold the tenets of the profession in the discharge of their duties.

“Let’s stand for the truth, if your are in doubt of your stories, we have a channel of communication in Kwara State. Always reach out to us to verify your stories”, she said.
