Kwara State Polytechnic has announced the separation of its Higher National Diploma (HND) programs in Mass Communication and Computer Science into distinct departments. This decision follows a directive from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), which aims to improve the quality and relevance of technical education nationwide.

The changes are set to take effect starting from the 2024/2025 academic session. Rector Engr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed explained that this move is driven by the need to better equip students with specialized skills that meet the demands of the global information, communication, and technology industries. By unbundling these programs, students will be able to gain deeper knowledge and expertise in their chosen fields, enhancing their employability.

With this development, the combined Mass Communication and Computer Science program will no longer be offered at the HND level. Instead, the polytechnic will offer separate programs that focus on specific areas of study.

New heads have been appointed for the newly established programs. Mr. Yissa Idris Olohuntoyin will lead Journalism and Media Studies, Mr. Opaleke Enoch Abimbola will head Strategic Communication and Media Studies, Dr. (Mrs) Dada O. M. will oversee Networking and Cloud Computing, and Mr. Olajide Anthony Taiwo will lead Software and Web Development.

Mr. Fatiu Olohungbebe and Mr. Oluwafemi Oyedepo will continue to head the Mass Communication and Computer Science departments at the National Diploma (ND) level, as well as manage the final HND 2 batches of the existing programs.

The Rector has committed to providing the necessary resources and support to ensure the successful implementation of the new programs.
