NFF unveils Bruno Labbadia as new head coach of Super Eagles.
The Nigeria Football Federation has made a major announcement, revealing Bruno Labbadia, a seasoned German football strategist, as the new Super Eagles coach, this appointment takes effect immediately. The news broke on Tuesday morning when the NFF shared a tweet on their official X handle, @thenff, using the hashtag #thenff.
The statement read, “The Nigeria Football Federation has announced that it has reached an agreement with German tactician, Bruno Labbadia, to become the Head Coach of Nigeria’s senior men’s national team, Super Eagles.”
“The NFF Executive Committee has approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development sub-committee to appoint Mr Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles,” according to the federation’s General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi.
He will becomes the 37th Head Coach of the Super Eagles following the resignation of former coach, Finidi George, who was unveiled as the Eagles’ coach in May 2024.
Under Finidi’s leadership, the team’s performance was hindered by poor results, particularly in two crucial matches, leading to a fifth-place standing with just three points in Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The Eagles will kick start their African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic on September 7 and three days later, will be facing Rwanda.
Labbadia, was a former Bayern Munich player, he was born on February 8, 1966.
He has also managed several German clubs, including Darmstadt 98, VfB Stuttgart, Bayer Leverkusen, among others.
