The Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) has revealed plans to transform the Nigeria Police Training School in Ilorin into a world-class facility.
The fund’s Executive Secretary, Mohammed Sheidu, announced this during a weekend visit to Ilorin, highlighting the intervention as part of efforts to address the poor state of the school.
“Although this school primarily trains recruits, we are committed to its rehabilitation and upgrading to world-class standards,” Sheidu stated during an inspection of the facility.
The visit coincided with a two-day management retreat organized for stakeholders. During the trip, the NPTF team also toured the Kwara State Garment Factory, exploring potential collaborations for producing uniforms for the Nigerian Police Force.
The team expressed satisfaction with the factory’s infrastructure and encouraged other states to emulate such initiatives, emphasizing the benefits of promoting local production and reducing reliance on imported textiles.
Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), called on the NPTF to support the state by utilizing the garment factory for police uniform production. He also requested the fund’s intervention in upgrading the Ilorin Police Training School.
Responding to the governor, Sheidu praised the garment factory’s facilities and expressed openness to collaborating with the Kwara State Government, stating that discussions were ongoing to strengthen the partnership.
