LG Crisis: APC urges Adeleke to obey Court ruling

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to comply with the Court of Appeal ruling reinstating local government chairmen and councillors elected under the party.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Sunday, the Osun APC Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Olabisi, urged Adeleke to uphold democratic principles and respect the judiciary. He criticized the ongoing political rift between Adeleke and his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, describing it as a distraction that tarnishes Osun’s reputation for political wisdom.
“We are deeply concerned about the political mockery in Osun, a state known for the intelligence and political astuteness of its people,” Olabisi said.
He lamented that for three weeks, Osun had been in the spotlight for negative media coverage due to Adeleke’s refusal to implement the ruling. He also expressed disappointment that the governor ignored advice from the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police to respect the judgment.
“The ongoing political crisis shows that Governor Adeleke has lost public trust and is now struggling to maintain control,” he added.
Olabisi defended the Oyetola administration, insisting that all legal procedures were followed in the appointment of the APC-backed local government officials. He dismissed allegations of procurement violations, arguing that all contracts awarded under Oyetola’s tenure complied with the State Public Procurement Law.
He also refuted money laundering allegations against the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), stating that no credible evidence had been presented.
“For clarity, the $20.467 million was converted into ₦6.26 billion and credited by the CBN to Osun Government’s account. The CBN records confirm this,” he explained.
Olabisi maintained that governance should be based on truth and due process rather than political retribution. He challenged Adeleke’s administration to present any credible evidence in court rather than making accusations in the media.
“Oyetola’s legacy is one of responsible leadership. No politically motivated accusations can erase his achievements,” he said.
Highlighting Oyetola’s accomplishments, Olabisi pointed to the upgrade of 332 primary healthcare centres, the rehabilitation of Ejigbo General Hospital, and the construction of a 120-bed ward at the State Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro.
The APC urged Adeleke to prioritize governance over political vendettas and abide by the court’s ruling in the interest of democracy.
